Breast cancer strikes 1 in every 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men in the US every year. While many advances have been made in treatment with lumpectomies; for many, mastectomy is the only option.
Insurance will usually pay for breast & nipple reconstruction after surgery, but not the micropigmentation required to restore the look of the aureola. The cost for micropigmentation can be as high as $1,000 if not covered by insurance in part or in whole.
Micropigmentation is a specialized version of tattooing. The implantation techniques deposit colored pigment into the upper reticular layer of the dermis. In addition to the difference in techniques, the needles and pigments used for micropigmentation are specific for cosmetic use. When properly applied by an experienced technician, micropigmentation results are subtle and natural in appearance. Read more about the procedure here.
