What is IPL Treatment?
IPL therapy stands for Intense Pulsed Light therapy. Many people often confuse this procedure with laser therapy, but it’s not the same at all. IPL uses short bursts of high energy light to penetrate into the skin and help treat and remove an array of abnormalities.
IPL can treat:
- Broken facial veins
- Sun damage (sun spots)
- Freckles
- Birthmarks
- Varicose veins
- Rosacea
- Hair on various parts of your body.
How Does Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) Treatment Work?
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) uses multiple light wavelengths to treat the aforementioned conditions; freckles, rosacea, and varicose veins being among the most common. When undergoing IPL treatment, first, the area that is to be treated will be cleansed. Then, a cool gel is applied to the location and the patient will typically wear dark glasses so that the light doesn’t harm their eyes. Once these precautions are taken, the light will be applied to the skin wherever it is needed. This process takes at most 20-30 minutes depending on how many treatment locations are desired. It is recommended to have three to six treatment sessions that are adequately spaced apart to get the most benefit out of this treatment process.
Now that we’ve covered what Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) is and how it’s performed, here are 3 reasons why you might want to consider this treatment:
- It’s non-invasive. Many people have a fear of procedures that can break skin, burn it, or cause any type of wounding or discomfort related to pain. It is one of the major reasons that anti-aging wellness practices such as Aesthetic Rejuvenation Center have found great success and demand in offering an array of non-invasive and safe procedures that do not require any type of surgery. While those types of procedures are available for our clients who are looking for immediate and pronounced results, they are by no means the only options available. IPL is non-invasive, and that also brings us to our second point…
- It’s Less Painful Than Laser Treatment. See, IPL works by using multiple wavelengths of light over a broader area, so you could say that while laser treatment is more concentrated, IPL may work faster if you need a broader area treated. If you’re pain averse then IPL treatment is a better alternative. Since the light is not restricted to one part of the wavelength, it’s not nearly as high powered and thus will not be as painful.
- It’s More Affordable. Since laser treatment requires a high powered laser, it also means that it requires a machine and components that can generate and sustain the energy that can create that laser. All this means is that laser treatment is typically more expensive. Conversely, IPL treatment can be much more affordable than laser treatment.
Note: There are situations where laser treatment is superior to IPL treatment.
